I think it would be cool to have Aldi grocery store there. It appeals to a low and high income demographic (which seems to be the demographic of downtown Greensboro). Cheap prices for the low income and european food products (German) that the high-end folks like. There is an Aldi on high point rd and Randleman Rd according to their web site.

Aldi has them only in the lead up to St Patrick's Day. There are suppliers that make British-style meats available on-line for delivery frozen - would defer to your search engine of choice if that's the route you go. Note that Scottish Gourmet is in Greensboro and has a retail outlet at their warehouse.

Aldi's and Publix delivery are both done through Instacart. I worked for Publix during the pandemic's worst months, and our biggest customers during that period were Instacart Shoppers (the people who bought, bagged, and delivered the groceries to your door). Some of them were terrific. Some were horrible.

Grocery store mergers are different than bank mergers. When Bank of America and Wells Fargo swallowed up a bunch of smaller banks, they branded those smaller banks as Bank of America or Wells Fargo. Kroger and Albertsons/Safeway swallowed up a bunch of smaller regional grocers over the last 40 years, but the legacy names remained.

With good competition, if one chain is perceived by customers to be charging too much for items, we have a choice - vote with your wallet and your feet and go to a different store. I do a majority of grocery shopping at Aldi, and end up with savings around 30 percent compared to Kroger, Meijer or even Walmart on most items.

There's also a dollar type store next to Food Lion on Kildaire Farm Rd. All have a varied selection of what appears to be remaindered items for the most part. Brands you never heard of. Items that didn't quite catch on. But Aldi is the only discount grocery-only store that I am aware of.

Since last fall I've been living in a suburb east of Dayton, OH in a 55+ senior apartment complex. I can walk to an Aldi grocery store in 8 minutes, where I buy most of the grocery items I need. Almost every sort of other store where I would need to shop is within a mile or so of the apartment.

Aldis is the cheapest chain grocery store I've found up here and I've lived in Illinois since 1996. Although, their prices have been rising steadily too, but they are still cheaper overall. Aldis doesn't have as much selection as stores like Jewel, or Dominick's, but they are by far, much cheaper.
