In my experience, the more moving parts in an HF item, the more likely the failure. There are lots of better alternatives. There is a review thread around here on the little one. Buy a champion seems to be the best cheap Genny. I bought a 3000 or 3500 watt Champion for $300 last year.

The DC power is then “inverted” back into clean AC power of the desired frequency and voltage (e.g., 110-120VAC @ 60Hz). Regulation is very good and this system produces consistent power characteristics independent of the engine speed.

So I just bought one of those cheapy 2 cycle Harbor Freight generators last night. Fired it up, engine is quiet and runs like a champ. So I put a load on it, and let it run in for awhile. Ran a computer, TV, home theater, DVD player (all the good delicate things these generators are best at running), and everything was great.

There's a new, never used Wen 3600 inverter generator for sale locally for 340 bucks. The same one goes for $450 on Amazon and $489 at Home Depot. The box is opened but it's still in the plastic.

You can get them in all sorts of sizes similar to "traditional" generators. If you have a 2000W inverter and 2000W traditional generator they will both be able to make 2000W because that's what they're built for (sort of, many 2kW generators are really rated for about 1800W continuous, 2kW peak for when motors start up).

Local harbor freight has an open box predator 9000w normally $799 marked down to $589, which could possibly run one OR the other. But it's not an inverter generator nor dual fuel. 60 amps at 240 is 14400 watts. There isn't even a common plug type that's rated for 60 amps.

Defender of Freedom. All the 3500 watt generators that can be linked (i.e., inverter models) are 120 volt only - which rules out running a 240 volt well pump (unless you also want buy a step-up transformer). Linking two of them together doesn't change this limitation.

Attached File. It's rated for 50 Amps on any given conductor. If you put a load on X and Y, you're going to get 240V at up to 50 Amps before you exceed its rating. If, however, you connect one load to X and the neutral, and another load to Y and the neutral, each of those loads is getting 120V at up to 50 amps.
