The sanded neck and its profile fits me perfectly. The tones range from traditional Jazz bass to the MM sound. Had to get used to the reverse tuners but otherwise this was an excellent choice in tuners. I was going to purchase a Fender American Professional 4 string, but happened to see the Geddy Lee bass hanging next to it.

Geddy's style of playing is TRUELY unique. Using RotoSound RS66 standard guage strings on my Geddy Lee jazz bass (SansAmp really helps) and a bit of EQ, if I try to emulate his playing style, I can get ridiculously close to the Counterparts/T4E tone. The live tone on DS seems to be more distorted.

The new USA Geddy sigs don’t have that super thin neck like the older MIJ models. It has a very comfortable satin finished neck.
The '74s pole pieces are nice and flush with the covers. If you want a little bit milder "vintage" tone, the '64 AVRIs are wonderful sounding pickups too, with really great, smooth low end (actually the '64s are my favorite of all Jazz pickups, but the '74s are awesome if you want more midrange growl). My $.02.
The Geddy is more tame, but sounds like a Jazz. The build quality is no comparison. The Japanese bass is in every way built better: tuning machines, "fit and finish", paint, neck, nut, pickups, knobs. Everything is built and feels better. I think with the Japanese bass you get craftsmanship you don't get on a MIM.

I'm a huge fan of the all-composite Steinbergers (actually, I'm the proud owner of one) but I'm one of those who doesn't like Geddy's Steinberger tone that much (I also have the Replay set, BTW).
2,028. Chicago. May 25, 2020. #1. The new Tech 21 DI-2112 came in yesterday! Special thanks to Beaver Felton and GH at Bass Central for scoring the first batch of these units. I've had all 3 versions of this preamp, and this one is the best in my opinion! Both channels are blendable just like the rack mount version via a switch inside the unit.
Before recording the Power Windows album, Geddy got into playing Wal basses. He would continue to use them on all records following records, Hold Your Fire, Presto, Roll The Bones until he got back to the Jazz for Counterparts. In this period, he would occasionally use fivestring basses as well.
