On May 3, 1979, a new Kmart store would open in the town of Trujillo Alto on the island. The new store, of 84,180 square-feet, was the chain's third in Puerto Rico, and increased the total number of Kmart stores to 1,532 located in the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada.
