ThriftBooks is a total scam...Shame on them! ThriftBooks is a total scam with coupon codes that don't get deducted and free books that are not free. To get the free "earned" book you have to spend another $30. Nothing is free even when you recommend a friend. Avoid this store like the corona virus, they are extremely dishonest!
Just FYI, ThriftBooks isn't one entity selling all the books. The communications you probably had were with the individual seller, similar to the Amazon marketplace. This definitely doesn't excuse ThriftBooks from making sure their sellers are honest, but it might help you understand how things work on that site.
Six years late but stumbled across this post. I order most of my books from ThriftBooks and I've had stellar experiences each time. The books arrive in great condition, even when I choose the "acceptable" option. They arrive on time, usually in a matter of days.
That's crazy. I order from thriftbooks all the time and have never had an issue with like new or very good and their customer service is great (replaced all my books for free when I shipped to the wrong address). Only once have I gotten an unmentioned ex-library but the only indication is a stamp on the inside. No writing or scribbling though.
Thrift is one big book seller. They even sell new, plus the only major problem I've had with thriftbooks is they had an issue with the sales tax calculator. (Charged 4,000x the amount on sales tax, than what was accurate) and took care of the issue by right away. Amazon seems to have A major hacking problem. No joke
i've had more negative experiences than positive, unfortunately :( lots of uncorrected proofs, books in worse condition than advertised, etc. i've emailed them about getting refunds for things like that but got no response. also, be careful if buying from the amazon marketplace--i try to avoid thriftbooks, but sometimes i've bought things from ...

i love thriftbooks for used books. the books will just come in a plastic bag, but i've never received a damaged book. they come with barcode stickers on the spine, but i don't know if that applies to pre-orders, as i've never pre-ordered from them; i stick to a local book-seller for my new releases and ones i can't find used.
I 🖤 thriftbooks and salute them for their service. I place an order pretty much every payday lol my only quibble with them is I wish they would just use usps flat out or literally any shipping company other than OSM Worldwide. They are hot garbage. But everything gets to me eventually, so it's not a big enough issue for me to stop using TB.
