Yes, sodium gives drastically better performance, but then you'll miss out on optifine only features, e.g connected textures, better texture packs, shaders, antialiasing, anisotropic filtering, forge etc. I get way better FPS with Sodium. Optifine has a bunch of unnecessary features, in my opinion.

I tried running minecraft without optifine and had no such problem. Reinstalled optifine, still the same problem. So I switched to sodium. But it also showed some texture issues, which made it also unplayable. So are there any other alternatives which can help me to run minecraft better? I play on 1.16.5, used the same version for both mods.
I think there was a mod for the zoom, I forgot the name but if you search it you'll probably find it ( btw it gets updated I think) Lithium indium starlight continuity. Sodium can be paired with the mods Lithium and Indium to help PC performance. I prefer using Complementary Shaders - Reimagined with Iris as I feel it fits best in Minecraft ...

On my older laptop (2012 vintage i-7, 16gb ram, 5200rpm HDD, geforce gt 650m 2gb) I saw better results with sodium, lithium, and phosphor (not updated for 1.17+) than I did with optifine.
Yes it will. It wouldn’t do anything about the latency tho. It can only make the game smoother and lower the resources needed. For latency I suggest using krypton mod. it should. Sodium is a client-sided mod, not a server sided mod. If you are the client connecting, then yes you will have better and smoother gameplay.
