They each missed each other by a year. I wonder if Bill Bell was a Dark Shadows fan and if he thought of any other Dark Shadows actors for roles on Y&R.
Somewhere (maybe on DL on some other Dark Shadows thread) I've seen a photo of Jonathan Frid and Louis Edmonds and other gay guys at the beach on Fire Island during the DS run. So, they were definitely social with each other. I don't think you can reboot this show. It was of a very certain time and place and it's beloved for being cheesy and camp.

R8 Not really. Barnabas was originally supposed to be short-term. But Jonathan Frid became so instantly popular they decided to make him a regular. I went to a reunion years ago at the Director's Guild. Lara Parker told this hilarious story. Frid was praised by critics for his phrasing, his delivery, the fearful look in his eyes.
