Yes, HEVC (H.265) video codec is still supported on Windows 11. However, it's possible that you may encounter compatibility issues with certain applications or media players when trying to play or edit HEVC videos. Thank you for providing this key information "HEVC from Manufacture". The difference you describe between HEVC (0.99) and HEVC from Manufacturer is the first we've encountered (at least for me). The information you provided made me first aware of HEVC Video Extensions from Device Manufacturer.

It seems like chrome and safari already supported HEVC codec. Any plans to support it in the future? I just so love using MS over chrome nowadays, the application I am building needs HEVC codec, which MS doesn't have.

Nice tutorial, but for God's Sake! who even wants to use this piece of junk bundled with Windows? There are much, MUCH better alternatives which have HEVC codec bundled by default for free, and have many useful options (which this limited shit doesn't have). VLC and MPC-HC are just significantly better than this junk.

Hello fellow edge users, if you would like to watch h265/hevc videos natively in your browser you can use this extension to do so. This works because Edge already supports hevc but doesn't report it. To install it you can just: download the code. unpack it to a folder of your choosing. enable developer mode in edge. click load unpacked extension.

  7. No longer free: Windows 10 HEVC Video Extensions from Device Manufacturer. Well, looks like the free alternative is now closed. The only option now is to get the $0.99 version if you want to keep it "legal". If you downloaded the free version before, then you "own" it already and can just download it again.

  10. What's the difference between paid and free HEVC Media Extensions...

    answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/whats-the-difference-between...

If you are not using a compatible device, this extension will have no effect on your Windows 10 video experience. The free one will only work if your device already provides a way to process HEVC-encoded content. High-end video-processing devices released in 2015 and most (but not necessarily all) such devices sold in 2016 should support this.
