History of the Mercer County Jail On December 29, 1825, the County Commissioners awarded Asa Hinkle a contract to build the first Mercer County Jail. In exchange, Mr. Hinkle received lots 31, 34, 37, 42, and 50, and also $150 in cash, with the settlement taking place on June 6, 1830.
