Sky and ESPN are both serious outfits (albeit not totally analogous) who should be putting out premium products. The jarring thing about Sky Sports+ is that historically Sky have been at the forefront of technological innovation and improvement—Sky Digital, red button, widescreen, surround sound, Sky+, Sky Go, HD, 3D (!), UHD, etc.
Sky Digital using satellites at 28.5°E launched on October 1st, 1998 and the old analogue service at 19.2°E ended on September 27th, 2001. So basically three years to move everyone off the old system and shut it down despite it needing installer visits to reconfigure dishes and replace set-top boxes.
Sky Q 4x3 aspect ratio issue. Prior to Sky Q it used to be possible to set the Sky box so that 4x3 ratio programmes on non-HD channels would automatically switch to show the picture correctly. Well I voted with my feet. Just decided I've had enough of paying sky £10 per month for the HD package. I will be contented enough with BBC HD, CH4 HD, ITV 1 HD and CH5 HD when it arrives soon. For what we watch of the others it's not worth it. Maybe Sky will drop it soon like they did with Sky+ recording, especially if 3D takes off.
