It was established in 1887, in what had been a local recreation area adjacent to a lake of the same name. The first amusement ride was added in 1889, and the park's first roller coaster – the Big Dipper – was built in 1925.

Shamu (SeaWorld show) The Shamu show at SeaWorld San Diego in 2009. Shamu was the stage name used for several performing orcas at SeaWorld as part of their theatrical Shamu show beginning in 1960s.
