FFSL was founded on 1939 as Ceylon Football Association, later rechristened as Football Federation of Sri Lanka in 1972. FSL affiliated with FIFA in 1952. FFSL affiliated with Asian Football Confederation in 1954 and was the founding member of South Asian Football Federation which was founded in 1997.

The Sri Lankan Advanced Level (A-level) formerly called Higher School Certificate (HSC), is a General Certificate of Education (GCE) qualification exam in Sri Lanka, similar to the British Advanced Level, conducted annually by the Department of Examinations of the Ministry of Education.
Divisional secretariats are the third-level administrative divisions of the country and there are currently [as of?] 331 divisional secretariats in Sri Lanka. [1] They were formerly known as D.R.O. divisions, after the divisional revenue officer. Later the D.R.O.s became assistant government agents and the givisions were known as A.G.A. divisions.

In March 2023, following a request from Sri Lanka Cricket, the schedule was changed to include a second Test instead of the two ODI matches. Sri Lanka defeated Ireland in a one-sided contest in the first Test match. Sri Lanka also won the second test and claimed the series 2–0.
