    The actions performed by the function keys (F1 - F12) is controlled by the manufacturer of your laptop, not Windows. If you press the Fn key + the volume Up/Down key does that produce the correct action? If so, then pressing the Fn key + Esc should toggle the need to use the Fn key with the function keys . . .

    If not, what is the Make and exact Model No. of your PC - that will be printed on a sticker on the bottom casing of your PC . . . Like I said in my other replies, buttons F5, F6 and F7 do not lower/mute/increase the volume on my computer. But now, as I have tried your suggestion of pressing Fn, my problem has been solved.
