V is better for multiplayer as the mechanics are simplier (No LAs, just civ UAs. No districts/adjacency puzzles, governors, disasters, electrical power, and loyalty) which, while less individually immersive, lends itself to quicker turns, and to many, a greater focus on diplomacy and war.

If you enjoyed Civ 5 you will enjoy Civ 6 as well. There are some key differences (districts) that will throw you off at the beginning, but the core mechanics are the same. Plus the new dlcs definitely added a lot of depth and some interesting leaders.
I probably think Civ 6 has the best overall game presentation in the series. I rate Civ 2, 4, 5, and 6 all very highly though. I don't think you can go wrong with purchasing 5 or 6. The one thing I like more in 6 is that it is much easier to manage playing wide. I didn't much care for the happiness mechanic in Civ 5.
You get a bonus to research on Techs for each Civ who has researched it. Scout far and scout early; the more Civs you meet the better. On higher difficulties when the AI starts with two settlers, watch carefully where your neighbour settles the second city.
