WTA 125 tournaments are an international series of professional women's tennis tournaments organized by the Women's Tennis Association since 2012.. Sometimes called the WTA Challenger tour (analogous to the men's ATP Challenger Series), [1] [2] it is the second highest level of women's competition, below the top-tier WTA Tour, and above the ITF Women's World Tennis Tour tournaments.
The tournament was part of the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 of the 2018 ATP World Tour, and of the WTA Premier 5 tournaments of the 2018 WTA Tour, and was also a 2018 US Open Series event. The men's event was held at the Aviva Centre in Toronto and the women's event was held at the IGA Stadium in Montréal, both from August 6 to August 12.
The tournament was an event run by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and was part of the 2018 ATP World Tour and the 2018 WTA Tour calendars under the Grand Slam category. The tournament consisted of both men's and women's singles and doubles draws as well as a mixed doubles event.
Elise Mertens and Aryna Sabalenka defeated Ashleigh Barty and Victoria Azarenka in the final, 7–5, 7–5, to win the women's doubles tennis title at the 2019 US Open. [1] It was both players' first major doubles title. Barbora Strýcová retained the WTA no. 1 doubles ranking after the tournament.
