Police dog. A police dog, also known as a K-9, [1] is a dog that is trained to assist police and other law enforcement officers. Their duties may include searching for drugs and explosives, locating missing people, finding crime scene evidence, protecting officers and other people, and attacking suspects who flee from officers.
The Police K-9 Unit, formerly the Police Dog Unit ( PDU) [1] is a specialist force of the Singapore Police Force (SPF) under the direct command of the Special Operations Command. It specialises in the training of police dogs in explosive detection, drug detection, guard duties, anti-crime operations, helping detain criminals, and general purposes.
In the 1960s and 1970s, the department saw major growth and expansion. 1961, South Bend recruited K-9 units for the first time. 1974 saw the edition of body armor for all officers.
