Just took delivery of 2020 Crew Max with the JBL 'premium' sound system, and it is absolutely anemic. Can hardly hear the subwoofer even when set to max bass, and if I set the fade to full rear, the four rear door and behind the seat subwoofer can hardly be heard. Turning volume to very high setting yields very weak volume from the rear.

Starting with the hu, and then all the speakers, and sub, will need amp (s) etc. Years ago I did my 2010 non jbl in stages, which isn't a bad idea, definitely cost more in the end.

However, if you're an audiophile and/or used to a high SQ system, the JBL is mediocre at best. DC LTD 5.7 4x4. Zone 5" + 2" BDS shims + 3" rear shackles. KMC xD Monster 20's +35mm.
On my 04, I replaced my woofer only and used the old speaker for a speaker adapter. It was a crappy looking job but worked. You will definitely need an adapter for after market. If you just want to replace the blown speaker only, look for a high sensitivity speaker so you will get comparable volume. Another option would be to look at a re-cone ...

I've been researching audio systems, and have made these decisions thus far: Keep stock head unit. Replace and/or disconnect all stock JBL speakers. Add JL Audio sub box behind back seat. Replace stock JBL amp w/ 1 or 2 amps. Add sound/rattle deadening material wherever it is needed without going overboard.

The only way you'll get a good decent sound system in a Tundra is to replace the Entune HU. I don't think TRD Pros come with JBL, but that would be a blessing as far as sound system upgrades. As @restosud stated, the dash should have JBL on it. If the front doors have a tweeter in the door sail, it may be JBL.
Aloha JGerner, I just installed the MS-8 in my 2014 Platinum (JBL system). Wiring is a bit different for those with JBL systems. Most importantly and contrary to what the non-JBL folks have done, you CANNOT take out the stock amp. You have to tap into the high level outs AFTER the amp.
158 posts · Joined 2013. #2 · Sep 4, 2013. I have a 2005 DC SR5 w/ the JBL that I just put some polk 6501 components in.. I made my own adapters for the 6.5 woofers and mounted the tweets up high. Here is a pic of the woofers so you can get an idea, it is made from some 3/4" of plastic material I got from work!
