Personally I set it up in the vanilla launcher ("directory" to the same exact instance folder CurseForge made, so launching through either gives the same exact instance.

I wasn't concerned about the updates, I was mainly concerned about not being able to open the Java Archive from using the Wayback Machine on the Schnu Pages, because 7-ZIP wasn't allowing me to view the contents of the Archive, which was already putting me off that download page.
Modrinth vs Curseforge is basically the website equivalent of Fabric vs Forge. Modrinth is faster, cleaner, more reliable, and open source. Because it's run openly by members of the community, it leaves more of the pie to give to mod developers (probably, hard to measure) Ideally, use Modrinth to download everything.
