Chain of shoe shops based mainly in London. In 1937 the business was purchased by K Shoes, [79] who completed a deal with Clarks and split the shops between them, with Clarks keeping eight. Clarks were not allowed to operate them under the Abbotts name, so chose the name Peter Lord. K Shoes operated the remaining shops under their own name.
Kinney Shoes. The G.R. Kinney Company was an American manufacturer and retailer of shoes from 1894 [ 1] until September 16, 1998. [ 2] It was listed on the New York Stock Exchange in March 1923, with the symbol KNN. [ 3] The shoe concern was started by George Romanta Kinney whose father ran a general store in rural Candor, New York.
In 1929, the company was founded and opened its first store at 7651 S. Central Avenue in Florence, South Los Angeles [3] [4] In 1950 it expanded this store. In a 1950 advertisement, the company tongue-in-cheek explained that its lone location was in a "low rent area". [5] Its second store opened in October 1957 at 16040 Sherman Way in Van Nuys. [6]
