It should be a good upgrade from 12 Pro Max. The camera is a great improvement with increased zoom (almost double). 120Hz display will be good. Always on display is another addition. 15 Pro Max will have better battery life. Performance should be better with the new chip along with 8 GB RAM.

For me, the transfer from phone option was a big mistake and caused, I think, the software update failure. Once I restored the phone I went through the update manually process and selected iCloud backup to restore from. The software update was very fast and the whole setup process took less than 30 minutes, including pairing with my Watch.
Picked up my new iPhone 16 Pro last night to replace my iPhone 12 Pro. For me, this is a big upgrade in many ways. The first and most noticeable difference is in performance o the device. My old iPhone 12 Pro became very laggy with IOS 18 especially and the battery was not good.

If you look at Apple’s AR previews of the phones, the pill-shaped thing appears to be indented ever-so-slightly into the phone, unlike how it looks on the iPad Pro. The iPhone 15 Pro stays cool to the touch for the most part, even when playing games. It can heat up when charging at random times, but it's not a consistent issue. I upgraded from a 12 Pro Max Dec of 2023 (last year) to a 15 Pro Max. I have been happy with the upgrade and I was going to wait as well. However, I was able get a great deal from Verizon by upgrading to the unlimited+ plan for $10 / month gave me an $830 trade-in value for my 12 Pro Max, so the 15 Pro Max now only costs $10 per month.
