It's almost as if each file/link have their own domain because I now have to give permission to download every file I test. The longer links are terrible and so is the new security behavior. If anybody from Dropbox reads this, please fix this ASAP and make it work like it used to.
As suggested by Ufodynasty I changed the dl=0 to dl=1 and the link now works in Geochaing.com 🙂. What a shame Dropbox didn't warn us of the change to the link it would have saved so much hassle. Hope you solve your problem soon. Stratoman

I was able to email a link to one of my Dropbox folders to someone who is not on Dropbox. They can view the files in the folder (in their web browser). However, there doesn't appear to be any option to download a file to their computer (for example, PDF or MP4 file).
That results in a direct link to the file which you can use to embed it on most sites. Just remember that when embedding a file like that (or really, anytime a file is played directly from Dropbox) there are bandwidth limitations to consider.

First of all, MP4 is just a container with packaged video and audio streams that can be encoded with number of different codecs. And Apple's QuickTime supports only certain video and audio codecs in your MP4 format. If your mp4 file has unsupported codecs QuickTime will not play it.
I've uploaded a .mp4 to a folder in my Dropbox, copied the link and made sure that viewing rights were public, pasted the link in a new browser tab, changed "dl=0" to "raw=1" and since then, the video didn't load anymore.
Just note that Shared links are not editable in this way Suzette - if you'd like the changes (i.e. edits) you make logged back to the original folder (i.e. the one that was shared with you via the shared link in question in the first place), you'd need to ask them to invite you to the folder with editing rights (not by using a shared link which ...
