r/youtubedl: youtube-dl and the yt-dlp fork are a command-line program to download videos from YouTube.com, as well as many other sites.
Copy those two files to the same folder as yt-dlp.exe. Download a video. Open windows explorer to the folder where you downloaded yt-dlp.exe. In the address bar of the the folder that yt-dlp.exe is in, type cmd and press enter. Then in the terminal window that opens, type yt-dlp "URL" replacing URL with the link u want to download.
If youtube-dl runs the JavaScript code or by other means extracts the key is irrelevant with the argumentation provided. The argument is that it’s not a secret that is circumvented, it is provided by YouTube for anyone that ask. It’s not like running the code provided by youtube would be difficult, it’s just an unnecessary step. Reply reply.
Good to see at least some activity around the project, or a fork thereof. One with CI/CD too! My only other comment would be to use stalebot, if it isn't there already. youtube-dl seems to be sinking under its own weight, with 725 PRs and 3200+ open issues.
btw, u/werid I just noticed that some of the programs in the GUI list are not really just simple GUIs, but whole archive managers/media servers with youtube-dl in its backend. Eg: tubearchivist, tubesync, horahora are not suitable for people looking for just a GUI and is aimed towards archivers or atleast more advanced users.
If you are looking for the most simple of Youtube-dl frontends, this should make you very happy. It works, does what it says it does quite well and there's also Docker instances for x86 as well as arm too, so those of you on Raspberry Pi's should be happy with this.

POSSIBLE COMMON ISSUE: It looks like you may be running an old version of youtube-dl or yt-dlp.. Staying up-to-date is important because bugs are frequently introduced by changes made to the websites that host the media you are trying to download from.
The feature I'm proud about in this gui is that it lets you download sections / clips from longer videos from Youtube and other sites supported by youtube-dl. Really excited to share it with you guys, and thanks to the mods who guided me and gave me suggestions the last time I posted. Hope you enjoy the app! Suggestions welcome.
