Cape Fear is a coastal plain and Tidewater region of North Carolina centered about the city of Wilmington. [1] The region takes its name from the adjacent Cape Fear headland, as does the Cape Fear River which flows through the region and empties into the Atlantic Ocean near the cape.
Bladen County was formed in 1734 as Bladen Precinct of Bath County, from New Hanover Precinct. [5] It was named for Martin Bladen, a member of the Board of Trade. [6] With the abolition of Bath County in 1739, all of its constituent precincts became counties.
