The United States Military Academy (West Point) and grounds were declared a National Historic Landmark in 1960 [ 2] due to the Revolutionary War history and the age and historic significance of the academy itself. The majority of the buildings in the central cadet area are historic.
Wood's Monument. 1814. Now located in the cemetery, this is the oldest monument at the academy. Dedicated in honor of Colonel Eleazer Wood, an engineer officer and 1806 graduate of West Point who was killed in the War of 1812. The old West Point Visitor's Center was housed in the now-demolished Ladycliff College library building. On 9 September 2016, West Point broke ground in order to begin construction of the new 31,000 square foot Malek West Point Visitors Center.
