Delos ( / ˈdiːlɒs /; Greek: Δήλος [ˈðilos]; Attic Greek: Δῆλος, Doric Greek: Δᾶλος ), is a small Greek island near Mykonos, close to the centre of the Cyclades archipelago. Though only 3.43 km 2 (1.32 sq mi) in area, it is one of the most important mythological, historical, and archaeological sites in Greece.

It has a total area of 131,957 km 2 (50,949 sq mi), [ 6] of which land area is 130,647 km 2 and internal waters (lakes and rivers) account for 1,310 km 2.
The next two sites listed were the Archeological site of Delphi and the Acropolis of Athens, in the following year. Five sites were added in 1988, two in 1989 and 1990 each, one in 1992, one in 1996, two in 1999, and one in 2007. The most recent site added was the Zagori Cultural Landscape, in 2023. There are no transnational sites in Greece.

The number of inhabited islands is variously cited as between 166 [3] and 227. [2] The largest Greek island by both area and population is Crete, located at the southern edge of the Aegean Sea.
Greece is one of the most visited countries in Europe and the world with over 33 million visitors in 2018, [35] and the tourism industry around a quarter of Greece's Gross Domestic Product. [36] The islands of Santorini, Crete, Lesbos, Delos, and Mykonos are common tourist destinations. An estimated 2 million tourists visit Santorini annually. [37]
