    Get some 2” Stainless flathead screws, I would predrill, and laminate the two boards and you are good. Oak would work if you had a cheap source, but you have to use white oak. Red oak will rot in a few years, white oak will last at least 20-30 years. You might get more warping witih oak, unless it’s quartersawn.

I believe the warm weather probably caused the spawn to be at least that much earlier. Catching white bass and sheepshead on the opener is a new one for me.
